Shipyards
H&H Propeller and Shaft is the East Coast’s leading expert on commercial vessel repairs and customizations. Our facility, in conjunction with our sister facilities at ThermoCraft Engineering locations, combine to offer in excess of 100,000 sq. ft of fabrication and reconditioning space, filled with the most advanced lathes, mills, CNC machines, and computer-aided assessment equipment that are capable of working in-house on ships of all sizes, including those with shafts up to 7 inches in diameter.
COMMERCIAL REPAIR SERVICES
Whether it is an emergency or regularly scheduled maintenance, our team, with decades of experience, can quickly assess the issue, finish the repair, and get you back on the water.
Shaft Repair
For large shafts that are worn, pitted, or damaged, we offer specialized metalizing for precise and even surface reapplication, bringing old shafts to smooth like-new condition while saving thousands over the cost of buying new.
When shaft straightening is needed, our specially designed 400-ton roller presses, combined with years of R&D in the field, give us a clear edge over others in the industry. Our experience and equipment mean we can straighten new and repaired shafts beyond original specs to meet strict ISO 10010 standards. Sizing capabilities include shafts up to 40 feet long and with diameters up to 7".
Propeller Repair
Regardless of prop size, material, or make, our team of seasoned technicians will quickly and affordably recondition your dented, bent, or even blade-severed prop. We repair bronze, steel, stainless steel, nibral alloy, and aluminum props to better-than-original tolerances that comply with strict ISO 484/2 standards.
We use HydroComp Prop Expert software and 3D MRI propeller mapping to determine optimal propeller geometry for pitch, rake, track, blade spacing, thickness, and camber so that your repaired or reconditioned prop delivers synchronized blade loading. Dynamic balancing using Dynamics Research Multi-Plane Computerized System helps us further fine-tune your propeller while spinning for extreme balance precision that reduces vibration, decreases propeller noise, increases bearing life, improves fuel economy, and increases speed and power.
COMMERCIAL CUSTOMIZATIONS
Whatever your boat size, and your performance needs, we can help you create the custom propeller or shaft that delivers the measurables you care about.
Shaft Customizations
For custom yacht builders, commercial boat yards, and discriminating yachtsmen, H&H Propeller’s inboard shafts are custom machined to deliver accuracy that is equal to or greater than ABYC, SAE, and Navy standards to meet ISO 10010 inspection standards. Machining advantages and available features include:
CNC Turning: Computer Numerical Control turned shaft grinding provides computer automation and CAD accuracy precision control of curves and tapers for reliable power transference and smooth, vibration-free operation that increases bearing life.
CNC Milled Keyways: Computer controlled keyway milling allows us to offer Filleted Keyways (also known as "Spooned" Keyways) and Radius Keyways that reduce failure potential by eliminating structurally-weak stress points and reduce failure potential by eliminating.
Thrust Plate Coupling Ends: Designed and engineered to accept the right coupling for your boat's thrust angle and power demands.
Turnkey Shaft Solutions: Available with prop nuts, keys, couplings, sleeves, and struts and props, we offer a total matched and balanced engine to water solution that’s customized for your exact propulsion needs.
